W Osaka - Marriott
hotel / panel
In march 2021, the “W Osaka”of the Marriott Group, the first Japanese “W Hotel”, opened its doors. A magnificent art panel was installed in the hideaway Dining restaurant “Sushi Ukiyo”, inside the hotel. The original picture drawn by a Dutch artist was especially woven with our Nishijin techniques. Its overall size, made of 10 panels of about 3400x960mm each, represented a tremendous challenge to do justice to this bold and vibrant design.
Countless prototypes were needed to match the needs to reproduce the fluorescent and deep-sea blue colors as well as the deep ocean natural aurora light. By using specific and singular materials, as well as different types of weaving techniques, to express the fragility of marine creatures, we were able to complete a one of a kind woven fabric that combines power, vividness, and frailty.
